Apple iPad Pro M1 Review: For the past few years, Apple has been trying to make the iPad Pro a product that can replace the laptop. The company says in its ads that your next computer will not be a computer. The iPad Pro has come a long way since its launch and with every update, Apple has tried to make it better than a computer. Some time ago Apple iPad Pro M1 was launched, whose detailed review we are giving you here today.
Design and Display
Talking about its display, it was introduced in two screen sizes which comes with 12.9 inches and 11 inches. It has a Liquid Retina XDR display. But its 11-inch display has XDR and Mini-LED backlight. At the same time, the device with its big display comes with more brightness and better contrast ratio. Talking about the 11-inch one, 2388 x 1668 pixels have been given in it. Also the screen is edge to edge. Calibrated color has been given in its display. Along with this, brightness, gamma and white point have also been made available.
It can be easily used even in daylight. There is promotion technology available in it which can switch in refresh rate up to 120Hz. We had its 11-inch device, so to say about it, due to the small screen, not much creative artwork can be done in it. Its design is very similar to the iPad Pro launched last year. It has an aluminum body which looks very nice. It also has a scratch-resistant coating.
It has an M1 chip which is very powerful. Apple says that the M1 chip is about 50 percent faster than the A12Z Bionic chip used in the 2020 iPad Pro. Although the M1 iPad Pro performs very well and fast, it will be difficult for some users to spot the difference. These are users who only use the iPad to use the Internet, stream content or write something. They won’t know much of a difference compared to the old one.
This chipset will come out more when you are doing some difficult work. For example: someone editing a video in Affinity Designer and iPad Pro will understand the difference. If seen, it is not an easy task to make the processor which is given in Mac available in iPad and expect the same performance. But Apple has fully enabled it because the M1 iPad Pro is a super-fast machine. But having an M1 processor doesn’t mean that Macs will run on the iPad.
If you buy the 512 GB or less storage variant of iPad Pro, then you will get 8 GB of RAM. But if you buy the 1 TB model then you will get 16 GB of RAM. Now on to gaming. The iPad Pro M1 can be connected with an Xbox or Sony controller, making for a great gaming experience. We tried many games on it and we found the iPad Pro M1 to be the topper in this segment. At the same time, the iPad Pro M1 did not heat up even once during gaming sessions.
Apple Pencil is a great accessory to have with iPad Pro. It has an app called Animation Desk. It has been made available for creative image editing. This allows the image to be rendered quickly. At the same time, its 11-inch model has a Magic Keyboard, which can be quite tricky while typing. However, it has been improved compared to the previous model. The iPad Pro M1 has only one port, which is USB-C. But it supports Thunderbolt 3 and USB 4.
OS, Battery Life and Camera
Whenever Apple launches the iPad, macOS is expected in the iPad. Because many people complain about iPadOS not being perfect. It’s not their fault as the Apple company pushes the iPad as a computer and iPadOS is not a desktop operating system. It takes some time to get used to this operating system but once you understand all the swipes, gestures then it emerges as a good operating system. It cannot be compared to macOS.
iPadOS was not designed to work as a desktop OS. Then it was also said that no one can use it as a 2-in-1 device like Surface Pro. However, the Surface Pro works better when you have all the accessories. For example, if you try to use Photoshop on the Surface in tablet mode, you’ll notice the difference. Even if you don’t buy the Magic Keyboard, you can still use the touchscreen on iPads with iPadOS.
Now come to the camera. A new feature has been given in iPad Pro which is Center Stage. It uses machine learning. It relies on the M1 processor to frame the shot optimally for FaceTime calls. It also works with other video calls. Apple uses the TrueDepth camera system which houses a 12MP ultra-wide camera on the front panel. At the same time, a 12MP wide camera and 10MP ultra wide dual rear camera have been given. It also has a portrait mode. The iPad Pro can shoot 4K video at up to 60fps. It has a LidDAR scanner which is a fun tool.
The iPad Pro’s battery life is claimed to be around 10 hours and is more or less accurate. For us, working all day on the iPad Pro – writing and editing tasks, editing images, FaceTime calls and even watching some video content – yields 9 hours of battery life. Of course, this will depend on the kind of tasks you do on the iPad Pro. The one problem we had was not the battery but the charging cable. For a device that’s being touted as your “next computer,” the cable length is ridiculously short if you want the iPad to work and charge at the same time. Luckily, Apple comes with the iPad Pro with a charging adapter.
The battery life of the iPad Pro is claimed to be around 10 hours. In the test we did, we saw writing and editing work, editing images, Face Time calls and videos on the iPad, after which it lasted for about 9 hours. However, every person’s way of working is different, so this time can be somewhat up-and-down. We definitely felt a problem with the charging cable, not the battery. The charging cable of the device which is being called the Next Computer is quite short. This can be a bit tricky if you want to charge the iPad as well as work on it. A charging adapter is provided with the Apple iPad Pro.
With its capabilities and the M1 chip, it doesn’t just look like a tablet. It is a good computing machine and if you can afford it then it can become a better option for you. The 11-inch iPad Pro M1 price starts at Rs 71,900 (Wi-Fi variant). While the price of 12.9-inch iPad Pro M1 starts at Rs 99,900 (Wi-Fi variant). Talking about the Magic Keyboard, its price is Rs 27,900 and Rs 31,900.
There are some people who prefer a tablet over a laptop experience. If you are an artist, video professional or hardcore gamer then you should buy the 12.9-inch variant. It comes with better display and bigger display. However, the 11-inch iPad Pro will be suitable for most people. Carrying it is easy.
The iPad Pro M1 is as good as most other laptops you can get. But it is for those people who want the best product and want to take only Apple product.
Overall, iPad Pro is a complete package and currently there is no one in its competition. It has a great display, strong performance and stylish to look at. However, a big question is that how right is it to buy this product by paying more than the fast Macbook.
